Political Parties (draft)
• Focus gets put on the party and not the individual person, makes it a game
• We elect people, not parties
• Official has to represent all of the citizens, even those outside the party
• George Washington, the country's "father" was afraid of them
• Hard for broad parties to match up with voter's views on all subjects
• Candidates may not agree with all of the party's opinions
• Parties subject to shifting their viewpoints/place on the scale
• Parties pressure their members to vote a certain way
• Locks out other candidates; just two major parties may not cover everybody
• Parties shouldn't be able to use official primary ballot to choose candidates
• Should be able to give "yes" or "no" to each candidate ("best of"/approval voting)
