Campaign finance (old thoughts)

• Root of other problems, #1 issue

• A constitutional amendment that's simple and limits donors to actual electors

• Limit donation amount to, say, $1000 an election

• Also limit donations given to political groups

• Fair to require that union donations be completely voluntarily, from regular people

• Allowing outside money like a religion being forced to accept non-believers

• Has created an arms race for money; should limit all sides

• Ensures fair speech, prevents those with megaphones from drowning out others

• Arguably campaigns should be publicly funded as a form of recruitment

• Public campaign funding can result in cost savings from better government

• Doing what contributors want=corruption (state SOS definition seems to fit)

• Getting money from electors creates accountability, opportunity for bonding
