Bus bunching in action
Note how the first 9 and 4 are late, and how the second ones are early. This can happen if some people who should only make the second buses instead catch the first ones because they are late. The extra riders can slow down the first ones and the resulting lower ridership on the second ones can allow them to travel faster.
